So, it has been a long while since my attention was turned to this poor neglected blog. Anyway, I have a few musings I would like to share. I hope you all are enjoying an excellent day that we use as an excuse to overeat.
Anyway, this past weekend was the Saint Louis county fair and airshow. Now, I know planes are spectacular and seeing them go in loops and in formation is really cool, but is it necessary to stop on the side of the highway, break out the lawn chairs and crack open a beer. Welcome to Saint Louis. You could drive down Hwy 40 in Chesterfield and see a line of people to cheap or impatient to go to the actual fairgrounds, so instead they parked wherever they could.
It was highly entertaining and got me thinking that some refugee from ____________ (pick your favorite war torn nation) was probably thinking these Americans were crazy. When they are in their home country and they look up in the sky and see the Blue Angels they think "Oh, Shit!" and run for cover.
As much excitement as that was for my wife and I this weekend it did not compare to the excitement which would occur on Sunday afternoon. My dear sister was coming home for the day and had just arrived. My father got up from the couch to greet her. Since he had probably had a diet of olives and wine that day (it was the Sabbath) and had been sitting on the couch for quite some time watching soccer, he got up very quickly. As he went to give my sister a hug, he walked toward her and all of a sudden he began to fall backwards. I was getting out of the shower at the time and all I heard was a loud thump followed by loud voices.
Apparently he had passed out as my sister was walking in the door. Rachel was apparently yelling at him, "Dad! What are you doing? Are you OK?" to which he replied "Yes, I was just sitting down." Whenever someone responds like that after falling to the tile floor the only response is to laugh (after making sure they are ok). Needless to say we have not stopped giving him a hard time about it for the past few days. I am hoping he isn't slain in the spirit while at the Brasil vs. USA game, which I am glad to say I will be attending.
Anyway, I am off to my fantasy football draft....I am a nerd.
