So about a week ago most of the members of this blog journeyed to Costa Rica for Neal's wedding. It was my third trip to Costa Rica and while we weren't in as many life-threatening situations as in previous trips it was still action-packed.
Highlights included: day at the beach (until I got a brutal headache), riding horses at the Mapache ranch, the boat trip around the bay, the tremendous people watching at the always entertaining Lizard Lounge, Papagayo Seafood (get the calimari and then grandma's shrimp and corn bisque), suprise guests Ross and Trish, the crazy drum/dance troupe at the reception, the canopy tour with Roberto, and most of all it was just really cool to hang out with all of my friends in Costa Rica.
Lowlights: the 4 hour drive from San Jose to Coco is not super fun after the 2 flights to get to San Jose. Especially when it rains the whole way. Best decision of the trip was us switching our return flight to the Liberia airport. Much closer to Coco than San Jose (20 minuters as opposed to 4 hours).
As for the wedding itself, it was super fun. The ceremony was in Spanish so I knew what was going on but I really didn't know what the priest was saying most of the time. The funniest thing about the wedding was that the invitation said that it started @ 3pm, but apparently this actually means after 4 because Ticos are always late. Ed, Matt and I actually had a pool going for when we thought the ceremony would start.
^This is the "little house" (Johanna's words) that we stayed in.
^Matt and Ed building their "aquarium" in the sand. We tried to herd fish into it, our efforts were largely unsuccessful.

I notice that you did not include a picture of naked couch sitters, and feel that said absence detracts from the overall quality of your post.
i second jons thoughts with little to add, but ill try anyway. i was happy to have a relaxing time with friends too. neal played quite the host, he seemed everywere at once. im pretty sure he cloned himself that week. then i figured out that if you just cut through peoples back yards it only takes 30seconds to get where youre going. a lot of double back johnsoning but it made sense.
with the absence of Bea, Ed was ripe for the picking. no less than 6 times did he have to fend off the advances of neals aunt Rosalie. with sass and persistance she was able to fenagle a fist full of his chest hair and almost make off with the shirt off his back. round 1: Ed, i think. tune in next week to find out whose on top.
probablly the 7th most interesting person i met while down there was the 19 year old guy from ohio who never heard of st. louis. he was finishing up a whirlwind tour of planet earth. last stop: lizzards. where every night we watched as he tried to break the code of the Danish forign exchange students "studying" in coco. my hypothisis proved true when we witnessed the fact that scandinavian chics want nothing to do with buckeyes. study abroad programs are pretty much a party infested joke, it was good to see the tradition live on.
the mapache eating poop in jons picture is actually a Coatimundi. to the untrained eye, there is really very little difference, but the experts tell us that their existence consists of mating in trees and then eating shit. whereas mapaches exist to forage for food in garbage cans and then pose for pictures that get turned into bumper stickers that are later placed on pretty much evey working vehicle in coco. only slightly more interesting is the fact that if you live on a ranch, custom holds that you actually name these dung eating rodents like they are your very own pet and then you let them lick your face before letting a bunch of gringos borrow your horses for the afternoon. its a lesser known tradition, but im glad we were there to glimpse it in action. rick steves eat your heart out you whinny little nap-sack toting b.
our zip line guys thought they were real funny. and they were. i was truly entertained by them. koudos to jon for excellent toe control and not loosing a sandal.
between the ohio guy, the zip line guys, poo eating vermin, wearing angies pimp hat and watching rosalie fondle ed, this trip obviously lacked very little. somewhere in there neal got married i think. im not really sure what was said cause the microphone/priest body guard guy almost botched the whole thing, but we spent a few hours all dressed up, there was a bunch of spanish words and then neal kissed angie. according to costa rican custom, if 30% of the people can understand you and there are greater than 15 monkeys swinging from trees in the church courtyard then you are now a non gay catholic married to the heir of groupo mapache.
might i add that the aquarium would have worked if it were not for neals destructive nephews who seem to think ruining a work of art is more fun than protecting nature.
oh yeah, the entire time i was there i didnt see one frog.
I have no idea what matt said, but I laughed the whole time...
sounds (and looks) like it was a great trip. glad everyone survived and made it back in one piece.
hmmm...now that matt has commented this topic can be officially moved on from.
To all of you woh watched Heroes on Monday night, you got a sneak peek at the new American Gladiators commercial.
They looked French, very french. Not American at all. They also look Episcopalian if you didn't catch the french code. And if you didn't catch either of those, then they looked like ed and matt in tico wedding garb.
yes, the gladiators did seem a little french but then the original gladiators were pretty episcopalian for their time. i read that the hosts of the new gladiators show are hulk hogan and mohammed ali's daughter. i wonder if they are going to change the gladiator's names or just recycle the old ones?? will there be a nitro? gemini?
as for heroes, i'm somewhat confused as to who is bad and who is good?? or is that the point? if that's the point and it's shades of gray then i like it better. i suppose i should watch the 1st season so i actually know the whole story. is ned ryerson bad?? what about veronica mars? i think i like hrg. the cheerleader kinda bugs me, and the guy from felicity too. actually, i think i like the "bad guys" more than the heroes. sylar and kensei/adam are cool.
if you want to discuss this nonsense might i advise starting a different blog. heros is quite lame, i award it no points.... your attempt at beating the previous post record is shamefull and if this topic continues i predict failure.
that being said, ive never stooped so low as to watch heros, but it sounds like its scripted right out of robert jordan. to his credit, he did find a winning fromula. if by winning you mean frustrating every fan until they give up, only to be followed by sucking every last dime out of your readers by making way too many books than are needed, than yes, its a winning formula. even if characters die, they come back as someone else, but youre not really sure if its them or not, then you can string your reader along for 15 books until you yourself die and then cant finish the thing anyway. i propose that the writers of heros are adopting the rj effect and will string its audience along until not even the writers themselves know whats happening. i advise you all to not get sucked in, the ending wont be pretty. it will one day be pretty much like Days where you see the "actors" seem to make up their lines as they go.
i will say though that john black does have an uncanny way to communicate volumes with a nostril flare and a solitary raised eyebrow. its quite entertaining, and i believe it calls for two drinks. im pretty sure that whenever the writers have him being killed by stephano john omits that line and just raises an eyebrow, he controls his own fate and job security that way. almost day-time emmy worthy. but it gives the writers leeway to either knock someone else off or start a series of investigations ending up with stephano hyptnotizing someone. now thats a winning forumla.
I don't have any resposes for the post above me, however I was perusing the sports guy's links and came across this and as it doesn't deserve its own post it was humorous none the less. http://www.euroleague.net/competition/players/showplayer?clubcode=rom&pcode=ADP
It needs to catch on, get him in the NBA!!!
matt, there are 11 jordan books so far and john black was in fact "killed" on days a few months ago.
and speaking of the sports guy, i think i might steal one of his ideas and do a running diary of the big 12 championship game for this blog.
yes. please keep a running diary. I would enjoy that...
