Back on the Bus...next stop: Retirement

So, it is official. I am back on the bus, a contributing member of society (whatever that means). I have an ambiguous job with an unassuming title where I sit at my desk using my computer to make money for silly things. I think my official title is something like "Keyword Advertiser" or something like that. Regardless I sit at my desk all day staring at a computer screen.

Positives:
1. I get to listen to talk radio again. The ONLY plus side to having a 30~45 minute commute is getting to listen to these guys on the way to work:

http://www.insidestl.com/morningafter/

(and finish up listening to them throughout the day) and listen to this guy on the way home:

http://www.971talk.com/Glover/index.aspx

Again, let me stress that this is the ONLY plus to a +30 minute commute. I highly recommend working within walking/biking distance of your work.

2. Health insurance and a pay check. Both of which are very nice, although I believe all insurance companies are oily little snakes, i do appreciate being paid nicely.

3. I like the diverse people. Although I believe only about 3 or 4 people in the office are "on the team", there are 3 or 4 that played for the old team but separated due to the quarterback controversy, and if I am not mistaken we have a few casual players and the rest refuse to acknowledge any sporting event at all.

4. Close proximity to Barristers (http://www.barristers-clayton.com/). Whether it is for a late lunch, or a quick dinner, Barristers is sure to be delicious. Mention me the next time you are there and you will get a free water.

5. I got a laptop. It is cool, the whole technology thing in general is pretty cool. I am for sure on the low end of the spectrum about knowing what is actually going on and how the company makes money, grows, expands, etc... But like I said we have nifty setups at work and my laptop is nice as far as laptops go.

Negatives:
1. Working in "the loop". Honestly what is the big deal about the loop? I don't understand why people like coming down to "THE loop", I dislike being badgered to sign some piece of paper that will inevitably get me telemarketer calls or junk mail. I dislike being asked for $2.00 or money in general. I dislike the edgy kids who want to go to "sunshine, weed-smell" or whatever the name of that store is. Overall I just don't get the popularity and I become more perplexed the more I sample the local eatery's (service and taste have been sub par). I am just not sold on "the loop".

2. Traffic. If a drop of water from a haywire sprinkler is hitting the road then the speed of traffic will drop at least 25mph. Likewise if a car on the side of the road has its hazards on we all need to slow down to 10mph and stare.

3. Working in front of a computer all day. I don't have a carlos computer job or a jeremy pre-soccer coach computer job. When I sit at my computer I am working. It ruins the internet for me, hence the lack of blog posting lately. I have no desire to go home and read other stuff on the internet. I am starting to loathe the internet. It is a sham and a hoax....and the company that will fund any information collecting/end of the world technology certainly rhymes with frugal.

4. I got a laptop. The downside of having a laptop is that you can take your work with you everywhere you go. I am a fan of leaving things where they need to be left. Work needs to be left at work for example. But having a laptop with all your work info doesn't help.

Anyway, there is some meat for you all to chew. I have much more to share but I will leave you with that for now and await comments. Teasers for my next post include: Jeff's visit to the STL ethical society, Trivia night in SoCo, and "champagne for easter, good idea?"

Affirmations:

-talk radio is fun. although one can only take it in waves. just wait for 6months to a year and you will HATE talk radio. especially with the election this year.

-thiry minute commutes suck. one of the priorities for our move to memphis was a 5-10 minute commute. it is wonderful. good luck with traffic in STL = no fun.

-health insurance sucks. I swear they hire teams to figure out how to make insurance the most confusing, mind boggling, and irrational system that they can. SOMEBODY is getting super rich...that is all I know.

-diverse people are also fun.

-the laptop thing is interesting too! Shannon has one for school down here and I'm "adopting" it. I might have to join the 21st century soon...these things are GREAT!

-ditto on your "loop" theory. but that is also a prerequisite for living in STL. you must say that the Loop is cool, has good food, and is trendy in a grunge, free, fight the "man" sort of way.

overall a great post XAVI...hopefully it inspires me soon. I am in a blogging rut.

Since you are now missing time searching mindless news on the internet, let me step in with a new happening: GI JOE....

Below is a link to a picture of the live action version of snake eyes:

Not sure how, but the oldest Wayans brother is going to play Ripcord. I think he was the guy that played Homey the Clown. That is range.

yeah the loop is a bit overrated, but what can you do. where have you been eating. subway i presume? yeah the food there will suck. if you eat at st charles like establishments be prepared for a st charles like experience. you must know that in the food world service is directly inproportional to quality. for a fantastic lunch and very little attention go to the falafal place on the little side street west of bluberry hill. quality falafals and gyros (not pronounced ji-row) for 6 bucks. its dirty, cold and the service sucks. but they make a mean humus ball. the only thing the loop lacks is a good pizza joint. but all is not lost, if you venture a few miles west, youll find the holy grail in la pizza. you can dine in and order by the slice. say hi to pauli and vito for us. the lunch buffet at house of india cannot be described with words in the english language, its that good. hello, saleems and momos? a little pricy but the service is good along with fantastic finger foods to be shared by food lovers alike. and for the coup de gras my friend and an off delmar experience, go 1/2 mile north on Kingsland and youll find quite possibly the best mexican (food that is) in the lou. my little ranch serves food that rivals its murals and service that says be nice to me or ill spit in your frijoles, but not really, cause hey were mexican and really happy to work 18 hr shifts to be here. plus they have a bar and tws with futbol playing all day. get the pollo ranchero and you will almost never want to go to mags again, if we could just get the chip and water guy to transfer it would be quite the nirvana.

this "internet" you speak of, yeah it sucks.

I have been to "My little ranch", Fitz's, and an establisment called Brandt's.

"Mi Ranchito" should be called "Yo over-ratedo" because that is exactly what it is.

Fitz's, while having excellent root beer, didn't meet the already low expectations I had for them (our waiter kept spilling our drinks on the table among other things).

Brandt's can't even follow hamburger instructions, but i can't complain too much because the meal was free.

Jimmy John's has been a lifesaver, along with the king of smoothies. Next on my list is the gyro house by smoothie king, the one you mentioned fits the description perfectly. I look forward to it.

yeah, my little ranch is just a slightly better mags. and i too enjoy jimmy john's. but you should definitely go to le pizza, it's very good.

i am eagerly awaiting the gi joe movie, the pictures i have seen are pretty cool. there was also talk of a he-man film in the works but i haven't heard much about it lately.

if i had filled out a bracket this year it would probably be busted. channel 4 is in storm mode though, kent keeps interrupting the games. is rolla even in the stl viewing area?? why does everyone in st louis freak out about the weather no matter what kind of weather it is? it's snowing, it's flooding, there's storms, it's hot, it's cold, aaahhhhhhhhhh!!!! gotta get bread and milk. actually i don't really drink much milk or eat much bread so i probably need to run out and get cranapple juice and pizzas before we get rained in.

no, no, no, youre going about things all wrong. everybody knows you dont go to brandts for the food. you go on a nice day to sit outside, drink beer and people watch. do they even have a menu?

fitzs is for tourists.

youre on the right track with jimmy johns which is quite possibly the best sub shop ever, mr goodcents isnt even in the same ballpark. and ciceros has very good zaa and salads as well. not to mention a wall full of beers on tap. bluberry hill has a kickin burger and salad on the menu but their outdoor seating is in the shade. they try to rival brandts outdoor seating, but noboby falls for it. but you will be in for the hipist of the hipist server who is obviously trying way too hard to look like he doesnt care. but bluberry hill in general is more of a landmark than a place to dine. i always feel wierd walking in there. it might be all those simpson action figures staring at me all the time. and the giant faun on the wall kinda creeps me out.

now ill dig deep into my bag o tricks and let you in on a little gem. seki has great sushi. and if you dont like that stuff they have a very good chicken teriaki a la larry david. and its the only japanese place where i thought the staff was actually nice instead of just being polite in a very asian/pacific rim sort of way. im pretty sure they are all still secretly bitter about the whole 2 atomic bombs thing. but now they have joined the bandwagon of having outdoor seating, so it seems they have let bygons be bygons, whatever that means. you can fiddle with your chop sticks while looking at all the college kids try to sell their old crappy clothes to rag o ramma. but i wouldnt expect those with a narrow mind to go there since its right next door to the mundane and over done and might i say, chain restaurant, that is mags.

the unkind words said about my little ranch will not go unpunished.

so i wanted to see those abs up close so i clicked right on them and it took me to a site that shall remain nameless and im a little taken back by the administrators admitance to liking steven lawheads books.

also, im a little bit afraid to comment on said blog in fear of truning real bloggers away. tonya seems to really have a lot of time on her hands. but who am i to point that out. my fear is a healthy one in that once i contribute, the whole tone of the blog will thence change and it will attract the kind of bloggers not desired and deter those that probably are. so for now i too will remain silent while distantly sneaking peaks at what the man has to say who drinks bud select from a can while wearing blue shorts with no shirt.
