One of Kim's facebook friends had a genius idea. He is having a contest to see who can add more good songs to his ipod. 7 categories, one song from each, if he downloads more of your songs you get a free t-shirt. So in lieu of the traditional exit poll, and even though I have no t-shirts to give away (unless you want the extra XXL flag football jersey), I propose seven categories of my own that need new musical influence.
1. Break-Up song- it could be a "i hate you now" song or a "poor me I'm sad" song or a "why did you leave me for him/her" song. Or it could just be an "i'm depressed" song.
2. Driving song- a day like today, windows down, in no particular hurry.
3. Adrenaline song- about to ski a double black, surf big waves, jump off a cliff, run a race, etc.
4. Unintentional God song- a song that is spiritually inspirational even if it is not meant to be.
5. I Would Rather Not Admit I Like This song- one your parents like, or is by N'Sync, or is often played at weddings
6. I Wish I Could Play That song- one that even non-musicians realize is instrumental genius.
7. I Love My Spouse/Dog/Kid When I Hear This song- it could be "our song", one that reminds you of your baby, one that makes you tear up when you're alone.
The idea here is that we all get to broaden our musical exposure. Read the suggestions and sample them on itunes or something. Maybe we could make a mix tape with all of them on it.

3. Electric Feel (MGMT)
4. God is God (Joan Baez)
5. Drop It Like It's Hot (Snoop Dogg)

7. There are too many to list for this one but I guess #1 in the last couple of years has been Hold You In My Arms (Ray LaMontagne).
1) Happy Ending - MIKA
2) Shattered - OAR (though No Easy Way Out by Robert Tepper should always be included in this discussion)
3) Spiralling - Keane. I have alot of gym songs but this is a current favorite.
4) All These Things That I've Done - The Killers. Also a tremendous "adrenaline" song. I think alot of The Killers songs are actually intentionally spiritual but most people might not view them that way.
5) Breaking Free - High School Musical (Gabriella & Troy). I heard this soundtrack too many times, it grew on me.
6) Trouble - Ray Lamontagne (really anything by Ray Lamontagne). I wish I could sing like that.
7) The Luckiest - Ben Folds.
1) Ain't no sunshine - Bill Withers
1a) Baby can I Hold You - Tracy Chapman.
2) Walking on Sunshine - Katrina and the Waves
2a)Sumertime - The Fresh Prince although Daydream is not too shabby.

5) Graduation Day - Chris Isaak
6) Fool in the Rain - Led Zeppelin

Joke List
1) Surf Wax America- Weezer
2) Loveshack - I cant think of a worse way to die than being trapped in a car listening to the B-52's
3) Pretty much anything by They Might be Giants. I usually dont care if I die after listening to them.
4) Devil Inside - INXS or I would die for you - Prince
5) Jessies Girl - Rick Springfield
6) Mozarts 5th Symphony in b minor.
7) Dilema - Nelly

6. Closer to Fine - Indigo Girls
7. Whenever I see your smiling Face - James Taylor
Amie added her thoughts on a few of these just so you know. I will try to differentiate so that you will know the difference.
1. Sunset Man- James Otto: this is the Jeff pick with the Amie pick a strong number two and yes i know it is country, it is good though.
1.(Amie)So What -P!nk: This probably qualifies for number 5 as well, but oh well, It is Amie's pick. The lyrics are awesome and it fits the "break up song" mold.
2. Strawberry Swing - Coldplay: Try it on the next beautiful day, you will like it.
2. (Amie) Rock &Roll- Eric Hutchinson: This was Amie's choice, she likes the "live version" though, she insists this is important.
3.Seven Nation Army- The White Stripes: No thoughts, just pumps me up.
3. (Amie)The Saints are Coming- U2 and Green Day: Amie's choice again, she said "It is my adrenaline song" so i guess that works.
5. A Dustland Fairytale- The Killers: I listen to this song a lot, and I like it a lot. I agree with my brother when he says the killers are intentionally spiritual and this song qualifies I believe.
5. See You Again- Miley Cyrus: Don't judge me.
6. Any song with a violin or fiddle.
7. The One I Love- David Gray: Lots of good songs by him, but I felt like this was the best one.
MGW, Have you ever counted the
"I know" "I know" "I know"'s in the song "Ain't no sunshine when she is gone"? Greg and I attempted, but we do not have a definitive answer. Let me know what you come up with will ya?
I am not certain but I think there are eleventeen "I knows" in that song...
good suggestions by a lot people! I think this is funny because I doubt we are shedding new light into anyone's world right now. to effectively do that we should have asked randoms, mexicans, and people from California, Seattle, or New York...I'm just saying...with that, here is my list:
1. David Gray "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye"; Joshua Radin "Everything'll Be Alright"; U2 "So Cruel"...and I can't leave off Love Spit Love "Am I Wrong"!!!
2. Jason Mraz "the Remedy"; the Fray "Over My Head"; Dave Matthews "The Best of What's Around" and/or "Lie in Our Graves"; Third Eye Blind "Semi Charmed Life"; and a lot of songs by OAR.
3. New Daft Punk "One More Time"
4. Anything from the Fray, most things from Coldplay, most EARLY things from Vertical Horizon, a handful from U2, and Imogen Heap's "Just for Now" or "Hide and Seek"
5. Hilary Duff "Come Clean"...yup.
6. Acoustic guitar, violin, fiddle, etc...Dave Matthews stuff, Nickle Creek stuff, and those 2 argentinians who play guitars...
7. Dashboard Confessional "Stolen"
P.S. all fries are not created equal.
P.P.S. the Freddy Jones Band is way underrated.
ill make it my wednesday afternoon goal to count the "i knows". if i get too distracted at the pool, my red eye to manila should produce quality. im predicting somewhere between eleventeen and ninety-two.
it was a hard days work, but alas i came up with 26.
i think 12-13 would do. but when you know something, i guess you really want other people to know that you know that you know.
